Demonstration of management involvement and employee commitment:As mentioned previously, the FCA program is used by hundreds on campus. University administrators continue to look to the FCA data for budgeting and planning. Employees are committed to keep the FCA data up to date since it's our decision making tool. With the involvement in the program at all levels everyone has a much better understanding of the overall picture. Those that control the funds have a much better understanding of the need and those that live with the deferred maintenance backlog have a much better understanding of budget challenges. Everyone involved can see the two different road maps, how we look overall verses how we look up close with our high priority backlog. By having this understanding everyone is working together to develop a successful plan. Our team approach is similar to that of a basketball team. At starting guard we utilize our operations and maintenance staff, facility managers and building occupants. These are the folks that know the buildings the best and report on what needs attention. Their efforts assure that the needs on campus are identified and captured within our FCA database. Our health and safety department functions as our other guard and is our assist leader. They review all needs that have a health or safety component to them to assess the risk and help establish priorities. At starting forwards we utilize our Plant Engineering department and our in-house Architectural & Engineering design department to review needs, validate scope, establish budgets and set priorities. At center we have our FCA program manager responsible for compiling the data and developing reports, keeping the database up to date, tracking funded projects and maintaining history, leading the team and reporting to the coaching staff on our needs and trends. Our coaching staff consists of university administrators that are fiscally responsible for the overall condition of our campus. The success of our program is in the commitment at all levels to work together to accomplish a common goal. With the continued success of our FCA program, and the wide range of applications, more folks are becoming involved every year. |
