Electrical Engineering

The Electrical Engineering team is comprised of three electrical engineers: a primary systems engineer, a utilities power & lighting engineer and an electric utilities engineer. In addition, the unit uses a full-time-equivalent contracted engineering service.

The UPE Electrical Engineers at the University of Michigan:

  • Plan for future growth on the Ann Arbor campuses
  • Assist in maintaining the high voltage electrical distribution infrastructure
  • Aid in the design, maintenance and expansion of building electrical systems and outdoor lighting systems
  • Design and maintain the electric metering and data retrieval systems to integrate data into the Utility Billing System and improve billing accuracy
  • Monitor building energy consumption to promote energy conservation and efficiency
  • May provide assistance to the Flint and Dearborn campuses

Electrical Engineering works cooperatively with the Electric Operations Shops to provide the campus with a secure, reliable and efficient electrical system.
