Systems Management Server (SMS)
SMS is a Systems Management product that, when fully implemented and running efficiently, will increase the ability of Network Services to support each of the Plant Operations Units by providing the following:
- Hardware and software inventory on all systems within the division.
- The capability to distribute software from a central location.
- Remote tools to facilitate support of users in outlying locations without traveling to that location.
The software is loaded on each user's workstation. Once installed, SMS will run seamlessly in the background and you should notice little difference. In a nutshell, the primary client runs in the background and collects hardware and software inventory, determines if new applications are available for you to install, and allows for remote administration of your workstation.
As with any new system or software package, we expect occasional bumps in the road to efficiency, and are preparing to quickly handle any challenges along the way. It is our hope that the occasional short-term challenge will provide many long-term solutions.
