North Campus Region

The North Campus Region (NCR) was launched on July 26, 2010 and is housed in the Aerospace Engineering Lab/Plasma Research Building. To contact staff and supervisors at the NCR, please go through the Plant Operations Call Center (647-2059).

By moving to a regional approach for providing maintenance services to the campus community, we are creating cost and performance efficiencies through having all job classifications present on-site, implementing planning/scheduling for all staff and reducing travel time between the Central shops and campus. We are now able to place additional emphasis on using electric vehicles and “kitting” (known as preplanned procurement) for job-related materials.

The North Campus Region is fully staffed with skilled tradespersons in HVAC, plumbing, pumps, steam distribution, electrical, fire systems, elevators, roofing, central monitoring and specialty preventive maintenance work. And we continue to provide quick response to service calls and focus on preventive and predictive maintenance.

Processes have been put in place to measure staff effectiveness, schedule compliance and work order management (completion rate and adding work order details). These metrics have indicated the NC Region is well on its way to meeting its objectives of increasing effectiveness, improving efficiency and reducing costs. Performance metrics are now being generated weekly, and Region staff has done a tremendous job of assimilating to the new processes. Significant data is being recorded in the work order system, and “kitting” (the preordering of parts and materials) is going well, although this also remains one of the remaining improvement areas. Many of the staff have settled in and a true ownership of the equipment and buildings within the Region is being acknowledged by the mechanics, crafts and supervisory staff.

The North Campus Research Center (NCRC) receives their primary facilities support through the North Campus Region group. As more of this 2.2 million sq ft facility becomes activated, NCR will provide their services using the new planning and scheduling processes.
