Employment with Grounds Services

Grounds Services hires students for part-time (during the school year) and full time (during the summer) work. Applications for summer employment are taken as early as January, with most positions being filled by early March. Students work outside with the horticulture and grounds staff, responsible for tasks such as lawn mowing, leaf removal, litter pickup, plantings, and snow removal. If you are interested in a position with us, apply online.

Hanging Banners Around the Diag

Any placement or hanging of banners on the Diag kiosks must be coordinated with Michigan Advertising Works . Phone 764-0436 for details, or go to their office located in the Michigan Union building. Please consider using the regular Diag boards rather than hanging banners in the trees, to protect our trees from unnecessary stress or damage.

Kiosks and Posting Flyers

Please be considerate when posting flyers around the campus. Please do not staple, tape or post flyers to trees or other living things on campus. Please do not tape flyers to the sidewalk as this creates a slipping hazard.

The cement cylinder kiosks are available for posting informational flyers. These are cleaned off by Grounds staff when papers get too thick and start peeling off. These paper flyers cannot recycled because of the amount of tape being used on them. Please help conserve paper and reduce litter by getting your message out in other ways: e-mail, radio station announcements, The Michigan Daily ads, reserved posting on campus buses, etc.

Volunteering for Campus Cleanup

Student groups are welcome to volunteer for a campus clean-up day or tree plantings. Grounds Services can provide equipment, brooms, and rakes, etc. Please call 763-5539 if your group would like to arrange an event or activity.
