Plant Restructuring Effort
Dear U-M Facilities Colleagues and Customers,
Many of you are by now aware that Plant Operations is undertaking a major restructuring effort in order to improve our operational efficiency and cost effectiveness. This is of fundamental importance given our challenging Michigan economic environment and conditions that our state has not seen in generations. These economic changes also come at a time of unprecedented recent growth in University space, including the acquisition of the Pfizer research park last year and the soon to be completed North Quad facility, Brehm Eye center, Women’s and Children’s hospital, and law school project. These pressures are having a significant impact on the University and thus Plant Operations.
To meet these challenges, we are rising to the occasion and undergoing a restructuring effort aimed at finding ways to meet the continued needs of U-M, while simultaneously controlling cost and improving performance. Among the efforts underway… more
