Fitness and Safety at Work
2nd Annual Fall Fitness Challenge!
Our Second Annual 2002 Fall Fitness Challenge begins Monday, October 14th. The challenge contest runs for 4 weeks. Encourage your colleagues to form a team. Teams must include 4 or more employees but do not need to be from the same department. The gist of the program is that each team member engages in an acceptable exercise activity for a minimum duration of 15 continuous minutes. The team that has the most minutes at the end of the 4-week period wins. Stay tuned for more information concerning the Fall Fitness Challenge in the upcoming weeks!
Weight Watchers “AT WORK”
On April 22, Facilities & Operations kicked off Weight Watcher’s “AT WORK” program. As the 36 participants can attest, it has proven to be a very successful program – the group overall lost an amazing 338 pounds and still counting! The group met every Monday for 12 weeks at the Kipke Conference Center.
Regular attendance of the weekly meetings is one of the key factors that make the Weight Watchers AT WORK program a success. By attending meetings regularly, each participant can focus on their goals and make the positive lifestyle changes they need and desire.
Modest weight loss – 5 to 10 percent of your body weight can help reduce the risks of obesity and all the illnesses associated with it, including diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, some forms of cancer, and gallbladder disease.
Be sure to sign up for our next 12 week session that begins September 9. For more information about our successful Weight Watchers “AT WORK” program, please call Greg at 647-4796 or send him an Greg Lambert (get address) (38.107.191.119).
Heart Health Screenings
The 2002 Heart Health Screening results were down considerably from last year (2001).
The Total Participants for 2002 Heart Health Screenings was 234. This reflected a 38% decline from last year’s (2001) participation of 376 employees.
The 2002 Heart Health Screenings began April 8 and ended June 26.
As a strategy to increase participation for 2003 Heart Health Screenings, Greg plans to launch an early advertising and marketing campaign to all of Facilities and Operations’ employees beginning in February 2003. As always Greg encourages everyone to continue to practice good lifestyle behavior changes such as consuming more fruits, vegetables and whole foods and take a multiple vitamin. Try to exercise 3-4 days a week and drink at least 64 ounces of water a day.
